I thought there were tricky questions in Anne’s set, I really do. Didn’t even pick up on a lot of clues in the writing to help with finding the answer so you either knew them or you didn’t. Tough final all round in my opinion.

I think the team are better than what they showed there. It’s a classic case of coming out of the gate strong, then making a couple of mistakes, which meant by the time some easier questions came around in the last 40 seconds, they’d already ran out of steam. What I noticed as well is some of the clues in the questions weren’t that easy to spot either, especially if you were going at pace. For example, I heard ‘Santorini’ and just blasted out ‘Italy’ because it sounded Italian, without actually stopping to think ‘Hang on, where IS that island?’

The biggest problem with this investigation is their version of flight, just powered flight, when universally flight is considered to be human, powered AND controlled flight. Are they ignoring airships here, which are only partially controllable and were flying years before? Whiteheads designs had no yaw control or 3rd axis, like all the other claimed flights EXCEPT the wright brothers. I don't think this investigation even knows these basic flight principles! That's why they just crashed into the first obstacle after getting airborne, if it even happened! The wrights invented all 3 axis for control and proper propellors which Whitehead didn't do either. His type 21 doesn't even have the basic correct aerofoil design or flaps on the wing. It was just an uncontrolled powered glider based on Lilienthal gliders which couldn't be controlled either!! This is not considered flight. It's Lilienthal's gliders which the wright based their initial design on and failed, which made the brothers redesign and discover true controlled flight by themselves. Whitehead never changed his designs. It's very hard to simply accept their 1899 flight had 2 people on board with the second guy shovelling coal into the steam engine?! It 'happened' on a busy street and no photos of the damaged plane or building exist? Signed affidavits 30 years after the 'facts' is not considered very credible, why not as soon as the events happened? They weren't credited at the time, I wonder why? The evidence to trash the wright brothers is just bad form, they proved they could fly, in the 1908 footage in France, the wrights did a huge circle and figure 8 stunning the crowd. This is probably the best evidence and is still before anyone else was ever photographed flying. Whitehead said in 1902 he promised to have photos to prove his flights occurred, but NEVER did, only glider images years after the wrights had already achieved powered, CONTROLLED flight. The Smithsonian Institute contract was basically an apology to the wright brothers achievement as they embarrassingly credited the failed Langley flyer as the first powered craft for decades. sorry bad information here.

Thank you for your hard work proving Gustave Whitehead flew years before the Wright Brothers, possibly as early as 1899. I propose a Museum built in Bridgeport Connecticut using your research and tied in with the Whitehead Museum in Bavaria to showcase all your and others very fine work.
